| The history of Fancourt can be traced back to the early 1800's. At the request of Sir John Montagu, the then Colonial Secretary to the Cape Colony, Henry Fancourt White was commissioned to build a road which linked the commercial coastal towns of George and Knysna with the outlying agricultural areas of the Karoo. Fancourt White established a farm and residence (today the Manor House accommodation) in 1859, close to the site of his former construction camp Blanco. Today, Fancourt consists of a luxurious hotel, prestigious residential homes and resort lodges, a host of leisure opportunities including two 18 hole golf courses, a golf school, a health & beauty pavilion, a leisure center, four tennis courts and a sophisticated conference center. |
