South Africa is often referred to as a "World in one country", simply because it has such an extraordinary range of scenic splendor. From snow-capped mountains to rugged, rocky coastline or endless beaches, coral reefs to desert dunes, open grasslands to meandering rivers, South Africa really has something of everything. Its climate is good, and there is a sophisticated infrastructure including first-rate road system, good air links between all major centers and good telephone communication. Hotels are good and relatively inexpensive. South Africa boasts some of the best game viewing in Africa, in its extensive system of national parks and in private game reserves. The "Big Five" which includes lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo plus other creatures like hippopotamus, giraffe are out on the open plains or in the African bush, that no other continent can offer. The temperate climate of the Cape Province is perfect for apples and vines. Grapes have been grown in the Cape since the earliest years of European settlement. Cape wines have, over the years, acquired a good reputation world-wide. The Garden Route, which is a 780-kilometres section of the highway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, ranks among South Africa's most popular scenic attractions including indigenous forest, ostrich farms and unspoiled beaches. On the eastern coast of South Africa, lies the Zululand which stretches from the Tugela River to the Mozambique and Swaziland borders. Apart from its impressive game reserves, Zululand has a particularly rich history. One of the most well-known national parks in the world, and one of the oldest, is the Kruger National Park. The present day Park of some 2 million hectares, stretching 400 km from north to south and 70 km from east to west, is larger than Israel and about as big as Wales. South Africa is truly a land of the Great Outdoors for golfers and other sport enthusiasts, and most importantly she is an affordable destination that offers you more value for your money. |
